[27 Northern Warwickshire Parishes]  Hearth Tax Returns - Hemlingford Hundred - Tamworth and Atherstone Divisions
All family historians know how the dearth of 17th century official records hinders research.  For those researching ancestors in the Northern part of Warwickshire in the 1660s and 1670s, this is a printed transcript of the surviving hearth tax returns for the Tamworth and Atherstone divisions of Hemlingford Hundred.   An essential reference work as unlike printed Hearth Tax returns for some other counties, this version details each of the years for which each person appears in the returns.
The parishes in Tamworth Division are Austrey, Newton Regis, Seckington & Shuttington, Amington & Stonydelph, Bolehall & Glascote, Tamworth, Kingsbury, Wilnescote, Polesworth, Grendon and Baddesley Ensor.
The parishes in Atherstone Division are Nuneaton, Chilvers Coton, Weddington, Caldecote, Ansley, Hartshill, Atherstone, Mancetter, Shustoke, Baxterley, Maxstoke, Merevale, Nether Whitacre, Fillongley, Corley and Lea Marston.
This big heavy book, pub by Warwks CC in 1957, consists of a 98 page introduction followed by 7 full-page photo illustrations of parts of the actual returns, followed by the 351 page transcript.  A phenomenal number of people are listed, as indicated by the index which runs to 66 pages.  One of those standard reference works which should be on the shelves of all serious North Warwickshire researchers, whether family or local historians.  A very nice clean copy in like d/w.  Thick heavy book.  (ref 0000)  £23.00
