History of the County of Fife
John M Leighton, 1840.  3 large 4to vols (a bit wider than A4) of 240/266/264pp, a total of 50 steel engravings as required, index at end of vol 3.   The title continues 'from the earliest period to the present time.....with numerous engravings in the line manner in steel by Joseph Swan from original drawings taken expressly for the work by James Stewart Esq.'.  One plate in vol 1 has an old waterstain in the top margin (affects wording but not the actual illustration), old waterstain in top corner of 1st 2 plates of vol 2 (just intrudes into empty space in corner of both illustrations), one plate in vol 3 has old waterstain in top margin (illustration unaffected).  20th century cloth bindings & eps, gilt lettering on spines, spines a little faded, cloth on top board of vol 2 affected by damp & board a trifle warped.  Where there is any foxing, this is confined to a very few leaves - even so, this is the cleanest and strongest - though perhaps one of the plainest - of the few sets we've had in 12 years, and as far as we can recall the only set with all 50 illustrations present.  (ref 2272)  *£350.00

The History of Fife from the Earliest Times to the Nineteenth Century
James Wilkie, 1924.  612pp inc index, frontis of early view of Falkland from the East.  Scattered spotting & foxing here & there (mainly affects the half-title page), dampstaining of top corner of all page edges - but this doesn't extend to page surfaces (ie you can only see the evidence of that staining by looking at the book end-on or from the top).  Boards nice and clean, spine dulled, even so we'd grade this as G.  Incidentally the only other copy we could find on the internet is priced at £98, our copy  (ref 1585) a bit more affordable at *£50.00
