The Marleys of Langton, Ingleton, Hilton and Houghton-le-Side
Thomas W Marley, 1920. Large 4to, 13pp of text followed by 10pp of pedigrees. Thick paper wrappers, much worn, but a nice clean copy. (ref 1206) £15.00

[Copley documents]  Deeds to The Old Engine Inn
A collection of deeds and documents concerning a small area (4 and a bit acres) of land, identified as plots 585, 593 and 594 of 'the plan' - though the only plan that seems to have survived is contained in a 1939 manorial document which shows the area in question on the corner of Copley Lane with Grewburn Lane.  At one time this was the site of an inn known as the Old Engine, though by 1939 it had become known as 1 and 2 Copley.  The documents provide detail over the period 1841 to 1939 though the majority of them date from the 1880s to the 1920s.  There is, however, a document dating from 1774 recording the bidding progression when the property was put up for auction [this item is much torn and should be unfolded with great care].  In all there are 21 deeds and documents, plus 9 other associated papers.  (ref 386/5)  £40.00

Darlington - A Pictorial History
Robert Woodhouse, 1998.  4to, unpaginated but 174 evocative ills (mostly photos - many of them dating back to the Victorian era) with captions.  Very nice clean condition, F though there is some slight damage to the cover.  However, an opportunity to acquire the book at less than 60% of the current in-print price of £13.99.   (ref 0000)  £8.00

St Margaret's Church, Durham
Bertram Colgrave, 1950. Typical church guide, card covers containing 11pp of text, 5 full-page photo-ills together with several pp of adverts. Nice condition. (ref 7252) £1.50 UK post-free

The Antiquities of the Abbey or Cathedral Church of Durham: also a particular Description of the County Palatine of Durham compiled from the best Authorities and original Manuscripts...
P Sanderson, 1757. 12mo, 147pp, frontis [in facsimile] of view from Elvett Moor. Worn out quarter calf, very worn marbled boards, boards detached, front pastedown damaged (by removal of former bookplate?), errata page missing. I last saw a nice copy in 1993 being offered at £125.00. This particular copy, the contents are quite decent, (ref 2740) is offered at £25.00

[Durham documents]  Sale Posters
On offer are three copies of a printed poster announcing the 1869 sale of the household furniture and effects of the late Miss Thorp of 26 North Bailey.  Size approx 15"x13", quite dilapidated due to splits along old folds, but with care could be flattened out and become reasonably decent.  One of the copies has an additional section announcing the sale of the house as well.  The three (ref 109/22)  priced for condition at £20.00 UK post-free

St James the Less, Forest & Frith
Richard A Bell, 1995. A5 in paper covers, 76pp, several photo & other ills. Published to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the church. Forest & Frith is the largest parish in the Diocese of Durham, and it also the least populated. In it is situated the famous High Force, well worth a visit. G. (ref 0000) £3.00 UK post-free

[Hylton documents]  3 Documents concerning Bankrupt Shipowners
These 3 documents concern 3 co-partners of the shipping company Thomas Gales & Co, which went bust in 1842 with debts approaching £20,000.  The documents are identical in their wording except for the particular co-partner they relate to, so we're offering them as individual items.  The 3 names are William John Guest, John Forster Naisby and Matthew Kirtley.  Each is in manuscript on a large parchment sheet.  (refs 103/26, 103/27 and 103/28)  each £15.00

[Lanchester] Schedule of Title Deeds of Estate called Stobbalee
This schedule, drawn up for Anthony Wilkinson in 1867, briefly lists deeds going back to 30Eliz (1588). It appears to have been the concern of the Wilkinson family from 1662. The schedule is in manuscript on 3 large paper sheets. (ref 754/267) £10.00

[Newcastle-Upon-Tyne]  We've acquired several hundred mid-19 to early 20c Newcastle & surrounding area deeds and documents.

History of Newcastle and Gateshead in the 14th and 15th Centuries
Richard Welford, nd - 1884 according to the British Library, but this copy is annotated 18/12/1883 (the signature was later rubbed out).  Large 8vo, 455pp inc index, several letterpress ills.  Recently rebound in half calf on marbled boards, raised bands, new eps.  Contents nice and clean.  (ref 8277)  £55.00

Shotley Park Visitors' Book, 1937-1984
Oblong 4to, hundreds of signatures from far and wide, many of them regular visitors.  This well made item has withstood the rigours of the best part of 50 years' use quite well.  (ref 2900)  £30.00

A History of the Town and Borough of Stockton-on-Tees
Tom Sowler, 1972.  525pp inc index, 64 plates.  Nice clean copy, VG in worn but still G d/w.  (ref 550/44)  £16.00

[Whitburn/Cleadon documents]  Copies of 18c Court Rolls
Copies of entries made in the court rolls from 1740 to 1764, the copies made in late 1854 and early 1855.  The property is rather difficult to fathom out but would appear to be a farmhouse, land and associated buildings including a windmill.  Families involved are predominantly Forster, and to a much lesser extent Preston, Russell and Hodgson.  There are 10 parchment documents in all, but no apparent reason for their having been drawn up a century after the events took place.  (ref 104/14)  £30.00
